I’m born again! What are my privileges?

What’s the new birth?

The new birth or to be born again means to be delivered from sin and its consequence (eternal death) and to be ushered into God’s Kingdom to enjoy eternal life, through simple faith in Jesus. It’s as simple as accepting that as a sinner you cannot please a Holy God thus need help to have a renewed relationship with Him. That Jesus died in your place, paid the penalty for your sins and made it possible for you, imperfect man, to be loved and have a relationship with a perfect God. That your new relationship depends entirely on Jesus’ finished work at the cross and nothing else. That not a single of your good deeds could save you.

Privileges of being born again

There are certain privileges attached to being born again that we find in the Word of God. Here, we will look at the five key benefits of salvation in the life of every child of God:

  • You will not perish or experience the everlasting shame: As a child of God, you absolutely need not to worry because there is full assurance that when you accepted Jesus, He came into your life (John 14:20), your sins have been forgiven (Colossians 2:13–14) and that you have eternal life (1 John 5:13). Those who believe in Jesus, have eternal life but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them (John 3:36).
  • You are justified, sanctified and glorified: As a child of God, you received justification; after repenting and accepting Jesus in your life, God declared you righteous on the basis of your faith and Christ gave you His righteousness as a gift of grace. You are sanctified; at your new birth, a continuous process of transformation into the likeness of Jesus Christ started within you with the help of the Holy Spirit. And you are glorified to continue being like Christ, persevering in hope and holiness for the coming of Jesus Christ. Romans 8:30 says ‘And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.’
  • Born in the family of God and became co-heir with Christ: When you became a born-again, believer in Christ Jesus, you were automatically given a new identity and called a child of God and an heir to all that belongs to the Father. Children of the King have a right to partake of the kingdeom inheritance. This is amazing that you now have full access to the largest inheritance known to man! (John 1:12-13; Galatians 4:7, Romans 8:17).
  • You have eternal life and victorious against the devil’s deeds: By accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and following Him, you automatically inherited the eternal life (John 17:3). The eternal life makes you victoriousover death (John 5:24), over diseases (Isaiah 53:5), over poverty (Philippians 4:19), over fear (Hebrews 13:6), over sin and iniquity (Colossians 1:13-14) and over satan and demons (Colossians 2:14-15).
  • You have assurance and security in Christ: We are given strong promisesof assurance and security as children of God in Jesus Christ. We shall not perish (John 10:27-30), we were brought into the Kingdom of Light, that is the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:12-13), we are hidden with Christ in God, no one can reach us (Colossians 3:1-4), our steps are protected, we cannot stumble or fall (Jude 1:24-25), God will never leave us, He will never forsake us (Hebrew 13:5), we will not lack, or beg for food, rather we shall lend to others (Psalms 37: 25-26).
